Road Rage on a lonely highway, Why avoidance and non-leathal force is the best policy

The Power of Avoidance—and a Non-Lethal Backup

A former student recently shared a harrowing experience that underscored the principle I stress in every concealed carry class: avoidance is always your first defense.

He was caught in a tense road rage incident. Another driver abruptly stopped in front of him, blocking the road. The driver looked angry but never said a word. My student felt trapped. He had his concealed firearm within reach, but instead of reacting with force, he heard my voice in his head:

“Avoidance is the first line of defense.”

He made a wise choice. He backed up, made a three-point turn, and left the scene before things could escalate. There was no confrontation, no violence.

When he later told me the story, he said,

“Scott, I didn’t want to kill someone over road rage. But what if it happens again?”

He made the right call. De-escalation saved his and possibly the other drivers’ lives that day. But his question was valid. What if escape isn’t an option next time?

That’s when I introduced him to a powerful, non-lethal alternative: the S2 Pepper Launcher by Salt and Mace.

Why the S2 Pepper Launcher Belongs in Your Toolkit

The S2 Pepper Launcher is a non-lethal personal defense tool that bridges the gap between doing nothing and using deadly force. It combines distance, stopping power, and peace of mind in one easy-to-use device.

Here’s what makes it a game-changer:

  • Long-Range Defense
Stops a threat from up to 150 feet away, keeping you safe and out of reach.

  • Potent Chemical Formula
Each projectile releases a powerful pepper spray cloud that causes instant eye irritation, coughing, and disorientation.

  • User-Friendly Design
Lightweight, ergonomic, and intuitive—even for first-time users.

  • A Safer Alternative
It delivers powerful protection without taking a life, which is critical for those who carry it with caution and care.

  • Peace of Mind
Knowing you have a non-lethal option can reduce hesitation and help you respond faster under pressure.

Avoidance Still Comes First

This student’s story reminds us that walking away is often the best defense. But when that’s impossible, having a tool like the S2 can be the difference between tragedy and safety.

For concealed carry holders—and anyone serious about self-defense—the S2 offers a responsible, non-lethal solution that complements traditional training. It gives you time, space, and control without the lasting consequences of deadly force.

As an instructor, my mission has always been to prepare students for real-life situations, focusing on responsibility, de-escalation, and practical tools. Stories like this reaffirm why I teach—and why tools like the S2 belong in every defender’s arsenal.
